camp…

i am back from london and am really excited about my job and the things i am doing. it was been so eye opening for me to be around so many other camp directors, especially the ones who are from camps in the north east. so in short, here was how london went.. arrived at like 10am one morning hung out with a few directors as we waited to check in, but the check in process was going to take a few hours so we all sort of split up to go explore the city. i spent the day with a girl named meredith who works for a y camp in michigan. we walked around all day then decided to go see “billy elliot” that night, i think its my all time favorite play. when we got back to the hotel to get ready a fire alarm went off. that was just funny in itself. fire alarms sound different in other countries so none of us knew what was going on but after about 15 min we all left the hotel and hung around outside until they let us back in. thats around when i met my roommate, she is the director of a girls scout camp in iowa.

day 2: julia and i decided to spend the day together exploring the city and at around noon we met up with one of her previous employees and had lunch, went for coffee and spent hours talking about camp and the way we run our program. by that time it was about 6 and later that night we had a reception with with all of the camps that were there. it was fun meeting new ppl and seeing all of the types of camps that were there.

day 3: julia and i woke up and took our time that morning, we did not have to be at the fair till 11 so we had a late breakfast then headed over to the town hall for the fair. it was crazy to see the number of ppl already standing out waiting to get it. the fair was huge and to my surprise i had not heard of any of the other camps there, mainly b/c there were very few camps from the south, and even fewer christian camps. i did not end up hiring anyone, but this fair really encouraged me to want to hire more staff through camp america, they are a great organization.

when the fair was over i walked back to the hotel with another camp director who, thank the the Lord, offered to help me carry my displays. when we got back we decided to go to dinner so we met up with like 9 other camp directors in the lobby and headed out. upon arriving back at the hotel everyone kind of split up and i did not know what anyone was doing, so i went up to my room. but i was not tired at all so i decided to just hang out in the lobby until i ran into more ppl. which was a great decision. i spent the rest of the evening with some other camp directors and some of the camp america staff. it was a grand time.

.

flew back to NYC the next day and spent a few days with po. sean also came down to the city and graced us with his presence. we had a great time! we went to dinner with duffy ( our camp america rep) and just enjoyed each others company.

now i am back at camp. im excited to continue to learn more from other camps, i had no idea camps were so different from us but i kind of love it. there is so much to learn and i am eager to know more. there are different conferences out there about camping that i would love to attend, people i want to talk to, and camps i want to visit.

i love my job.
